Ending Child Sexual Assault in Kenya. Empowering Survivors.
Child sexual assault tragically affects numerous young lives across Kenya, where nearly 1 in 6 girls (15.6%) and 1 in 16 boys (6.4%) experience sexual violence before age 18. Critically, only 12.5% of female survivors and 3.2% of male survivors successfully access the support services they need. Bringing Smiles Foundation provides data-driven pathways to prevention, healing, and justice for children and survivors.
Our Commitment: Building a Safer Future Through Evidence-Based Prevention and Survivor Empowerment.
We believe every child has the right to safety and healing. Bringing Smiles Foundation addresses Child Sexual Assault through a comprehensive, data-driven 5-Phase strategy. By combining community-led education with survivor-centered support pathways and advocating for systemic change, we work to prevent abuse and empower those affected to build resilient, independent futures within Kenyan communities.
Bringing Smiles Foundation: A Trusted Kenyan Voice for Child Protection
Bringing Smiles Foundation is an established Kenyan non-profit with a proven track record of supporting vulnerable children. We are now launching a new, focused mission: to prevent child sexual assault and empower survivors. Our work is rooted in core values of integrity, transparency, and survivor-centered care, partnering directly with communities like Mathare to build sustainable, evidence-based solutions from the ground up.
Our Four-Phase Approach to Lasting Change
To create real, sustainable impact, we employ a structured four-phase strategy. At every phase, we employ a comprehensive Monitoring and Evaluation framework to track outcomes, refine our approach, and ensure scalability to protect more children and support more survivors.
Phase 1: Research, Education, and Awareness
The first step to change is understanding the problem. In Mathare, we begin by gathering comprehensive data and insights to uncover the root causes of child sexual assault. This foundational work also includes Legal and Policy Research to identify critical gaps in Kenya's existing child protection laws. Armed with this complete picture, we educate children, families, and community leaders on how to recognize, prevent, and address abuse. Through workshops, seminars, and tailored educational materials, we are raising awareness and equipping communities with the tools they need to take action.
Phase 2: Prevention and Intervention
Building on this foundation, Phase 2 focuses on proactive intervention to stop abuse before it happens and strengthen systemic protections . We advocate for stronger child protection policies and partner with legal advocates to address gaps in the existing laws . Simultaneously, we work with communities to establish safe environments and deploy accessible technological solutions, like reporting platforms, to ensure rapid, effective responses for children at immediate risk.
Phase 3: Support and Rehabilitation
Every survivor deserves the opportunity to heal with dignity. This phase is dedicated to providing comprehensive, survivor-centered support that addresses their physical, emotional, and legal needs . We facilitate access to professional, trauma-informed counseling, specialized medical care for physical recovery, and dedicated legal aid services. Through these coordinated systems, we ensure survivors and their families receive the high-quality care and justice they deserve.
Phase 4: Empowerment and Reintegration
Healing goes beyond recovery—it’s about reclaiming a future and breaking the cycle of vulnerability. This phase empowers survivors with the tools they need to build independent, thriving futures . We provide long-term support through formal education, scholarships, vocational skills training, and economic empowerment initiatives . By fostering financial stability and community acceptance, we help survivors reintegrate into society with strength and dignity.
